The most famous wax coming from an animal is beeswax. The main ingredient of it, is myricyl palmitate, the substance that bees use to build their honeycombs. Its melting point is 62-67° C. It contains useful and nourishing ingredients that as used in beauty products, amongst other uses. Beeswax is really important, due to the useful properties that it has for us!

The production of beeswax

The natural beeswax which bees use to build their honeycombs, is produced when the bees consume enough food ( honey and pollen). The natural beeswax is often used in face and body creams, as well as in sun-protecting oils.

Harvesting

The first layer of wax usually has a pale color and it is relatively free from other ingredients, so it is usually used for the production of the finest beeswax. The wax from older honeycombs is a darker brown color. In addition, it contains different substances, like cocoons and propolis. When the wax melts, the cocoons act like tiny sponges, they hold the melted wax and they have to be compressed in order to release it. The wax coming from those honeycombs is lower quality than the one coming from the newest layers. Those two different types of wax must be processed individually.
